Elaboration (vinification)
The Grenache grapes are handpicked and fermented in small 5,000-litres stainless steel tanks where the close contact of skins and must frees aroma and colour. The wine is then aged in 300-litres French and American oak barrels.
Vineyard (viticulture)
Grown on the slopes of the Montsant range in calcareous clay soil, the old goblet-pruned Grenache vines produce full-bodied, complex wines.
After the conclusion of the 2015 harvest, the following months were typical of the Mediterranean climate: some rainfall to feed the soil; a typically dry winter; and a warmer-than-usual winter, leading to forecasts of an early growth cycle. That was how things looked, until nature put everything back in its place with unusually generous spring rains and below-average temperatures. The growth cycle therefore returned back to that of a normal year. A warm summer pointed to a great harvest. However, temperatures rose by the end of the summer, bringing the harvest forward, and this is exactly what we find in the bottle: a wine with the two faces of the summer of 2016: freshness and maturity, idyllic concepts when we speak of a Grenache from the southern part of the D.O. Montsant.
