Codorniu

:. Cava, culture and art

Cava production plays an important role in Catalan culture, and Codorníu has been one of its leading exponents. Making cava, however, has not been the Raventós family’s only contribution to culture and art. Every year, at the beginning of the grape harvest, the Celler Gran at Codorníu’s winery in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia is converted into an exclusive musical auditorium, for a gathering of the Raventós family, company employees, neighbours and friends.
 ARTE CODORNÍU

- ADVERTISING POSTER FROM THE 1940s

The poster competitions also underline Codorníu’s association with art. First organized in 1898, they extended well into the 20th century. Eminent painters and illustrators, such as Miguel Utrillo, Ramón Casas, Julio Tubilla, Sebastià Junyent, Fernando Albertí and Alexandre de Riquer, participated in them. Their works can be admired today in Codorníu at Sant Sadurní d’Anoia. Creativity is also evident today in TV commercials broadcast at Christmas time, and in the design of cava labels. Special gift packs for certain products are also closely connected to the art world. Many of them refer to some of the leading painters in the history of modern art. The Codorníu Cellars are a unique symbol of Codorníu’s artistic spirit and refinement, and represent a clear commitment to creative elegance.

In short, our aim is to give artistic expression to the philosophy that lies behind each bottle produced by Codorníu. Elegance, balance, refinement and distinction, closely linked to the purity and authenticity of the winemaking and ageing processes, are also conveyed in those artistic endeavours.
